A BUSINESS is showing pride in its locality by sponsoring two voluntary groups that work to improve Rossendale.
Bacup-based Beta Group has agreed to sponsor Civic Pride Rossendale and Bacup Pride as a thank you for the work that both organisations carry out.
Beta Group’s Managing Director Martin Lewis said: “I was, initially, really impressed with the effect I saw in Rawtenstall after Civic Pride had completed some litter picking in gateway areas. I was even more surprised when I found out the actual depth of what they do to improve our local environment with gardening and pruning as well.
“Bacup Pride is doing a similar job in the Bacup area, which is after all where Beta Group is based. So rather than supporting one or the other we decided to support them both.”
Chairman of Civic Pride Rossendale Chris Blomerley said: “Civic Pride is very grateful to Beta Group, as we are to all the businesses and private individuals who are now supporting Civic Pride across Rossendale with their generous sponsorship.
“It’s enabling our volunteers to be significantly more effective in their work to improve our valley.”
Bacup Pride has seen a significant increase in the number of volunteers helping with its projects since the introduction of a mid-week activity session.
Treasurer of Bacup Pride Andrew Walmsley said: “It is great that Martin and Beta Group, as a business based in Bacup, want to support a group that’s main objective is to make Bacup a better place to live and work.
“I am delighted that more people are seeing Bacup Pride working in the town not just at weekends and that is encouraging more volunteers to join us and get involved.
“We are also grateful for an anonymous donation of £250 from someone who, although physically unable to join us, wanted to further the work of Bacup Pride. Thank you everyone for your continued support.”
As well as financial support, the company is sponsoring hi-vis jackets and providing Bacup Pride free use of a company vehicle to collect litter bags.
In December Beta Group helped Bacup’s Royal Court Theatre save thousands of pounds on a new heating system to ensure theatre audiences were warm when they attended shows.
Martin added: “It is part of Beta Group’s desire to give something back to the local community. Beta Group also has a representative on the THI Partnership Board which is overseeing the spending of £2million to improve Bacup centre. It’s a long time coming but I feel we are getting there.”
