Dancers Sparkle at Dansworks Annual Show

PERFORMERS aged from two-and-a-half up to 67 took to the stage for the Dansworks Dance Academy annual show.

The Bacup dance school held its show at Burnley Mechanics and the auditorium was packed with parents and friends supporting the dancers and singers.

Principal Karen Roe said: “The youngest performer on stage was from our pre-school class and the oldest dancer was from our adult tap class.

“In total we had 169 performers on stage for the grand finale. They represented tap, ballet, musical theatre, street dance, Irish dance, modern jazz and freestyle.

“The feedback we had after the show was excellent and very positive.

“A lot of people said they thought the show was amazing and they said the show gets better every year.

“They said the children were wonderful and they couldn’t believe their high standard considering how young they were.”

The studio, at Alma Street, is a busy place with classes five days a week and competitions and community performances on a Sunday.

As well as performing at including Bacup And Stacksteads Carnival, the 60s Festival and the Bacup Christmas Market, the dancers also perform at several residential homes and the pensioners’ party in Whitworth.

Karen said: “We enjoy being able to take Dansworks out into the community and it gives our young members a chance to show what their ability to a wider audience.

“In the show we had more than 30 different performances in two acts including displays by our special needs dancers.

“We have had an amazing year at Dansworks having taken on three new members of staff since October including professional dancer and choreographer John Pemberton who works with our competition street dance crews.

“The Under 10s crew Little Monsters and under 14s crew Resistance both won through to the United Dance Organisation World Championships in Glasgow.

“Next year we will have dancers from our twin school in Malta – Dance College Studios – performing at our annual show and. In July 2015, Dansworks will be making our second visit to Malta when we will be taking 12 dancers to perform in their annual show.

“We are also now offering a new class called Mature Movers for the over 50s as part of Rossendale and Pendle councils Up and Active programme. Classes are on Friday mornings and cost just £1 a session.”
