Alder Grange Year 10 Enterprise Week w/c 13th July Appeal for Help / Mentors

Each year, year 10 pupils are taken off timetable and have a full week of enterprise activities.  The event is always held the penultimate week of the summer term which, this year, is week commencing 13 July.  They do not know until day one what their brief will be but we can tell you that our focus this year is tourism in Rossendale.  The pupils will have to gather information, work to budgets, consider target markets and come up with a 48 hour stay in Rossendale for: a low budget family break, a romantic couples’ break, an adrenalin break and maybe one more.  The information gathered at the Promoting Rossendale meeting last week will be extremely beneficial in the planning and execution of this week.  Continue reading “Alder Grange Year 10 Enterprise Week w/c 13th July Appeal for Help / Mentors”

Even though the forecast for the weekend was far from summery, the sun shone on what was to be a spectacular Saturday of sport!

Our second walking football tournament kicked off with 18 teams made up of local businesses and third sector organisations from all across the Rossendale Valley and beyond.

This year we had 2 beautiful trophies to be won, created for us by the talented Alexis Valentine, from Walking On Glass.

We are pleased to announce, that after some fierce competition on the pitch, the Winners of the Premier League trophy were the combined team Leabrook/Toffs and the Winners of the Galaxy League trophy were Irish Democratic League Club of Haslingden. Congratulations to both teams.

Presentations of trophies were made by The Worshipful, The Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Marilyn Procter.

Each winning team was asked to select a good cause to donate each £100.00 raised from entry fees.

Leabrook / Toffs selected: Lancashire Air Ambulance and Cancer Research (£50.00 each)

Irish Democratic League Club Haslingden selected: Rossendale Mayor’s Charity fund (£100.00)

We all at The Raft Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that entered this year, to the many spectators and also the entire event team that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the day an incredible success.

Also special thanks to The Whitworth Photographic Society for their skill in capturing the spirit of the day and The Lancashire Road Riders for their help throughout the day right until the very end.

Also thank you to Claire Louie and Dave Meadows for their amazing efforts in planning and organisation, leading up to the event and on the day.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year for The Raft Foundation Walking Football Tournament 2016
